When you start learning a new language, the beginning is always the toughest moment.

It’s a bit like doing mountain climbing for the first time. You feel that the destination is out of reach.

But what if…you forget for a moment the goals you bravely set up, the boring grammar and just…think about fun ways to approach the new language?

Watching movies is a great way to enjoy the learning, especially now that we are in the autumn season.

If you are learning French, you’re now the lucky one! We collected 5 of the best French movies that are easy and fun to watch!

ENJOY!

1. Bienvenue à Marly-Gomont (2016)

(By  Julien Rambaldi, comedy-drama)

What happens when an African family decides to move to a small rural village in Northern France, in seek of a better life? Stereotypes and fun facts color this enjoyable comedy-drama. “Bienvenue à Marly-Gomont” is also known as “The African doctor” and will make you think and laugh at the same time.

2. Il y a long temps que je t’aime (1989)

(By Philippe Claudel, drama)

Two sisters. Two complete strangers. Julietta is released from prison after 15 years, and to wait for her there is only Léa, her sister. The goodness of Léa, who invite Julietta to live at her house, surprises everyone. But a huge question still hangs over Juliette: what she did fifteen years ago? Mystery and romance intertwine in this fascinating drama. Unmissable!

3. Kirikou et la sorcière (1998)

(By Michel Ocelot and Raymond Burlet, animation)

This is definitely one of my favorite animation movies. In a little village somewhere in the West Africa, Kirikou is born and he can already speak and walk. With his little body and his inexplicable speed, Kirikou will try to save his village from the evil sorceress Karaba, who has dried up the well and threatened to eat all the men. But he will find out that not everything is as it seems…

4. Un Profil pour Deux (2017)

By Stéphane Robelin, comedy)

Pierre discovers the joy of Internet at the age of 75. After some initial and hilarious hurdles, the old man practices his young tech skills and signs up to online dating websites using Alex’s profile picture. But what happens when they’ll meet in real life? A light-hearted movie that will make you laughing scene by scene.

5. Le Prénom (2012)

(By A. de La Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte, comedy)

During a dinner between childhood friends, Vincent announces the name of his future son. This will cause hilarious and dramatic reactions among his guests. This intense and engaging dialogue among friends makes this comedy outstanding! (I suggest to watch it if you have already a good-ish level in French!)
