O SPEAK – intercâmbio de línguas e culturas – está a arrancar pela primeira vez em Lisboa. Já há alguns cursos disponíveis e uma das boas surpresas é a Língua Gestual Portuguesa que fica, assim, ao alcance de qualquer um por um preço simbólico de participação!

Resolvi fazer algumas perguntas ao Hugo Menino Aguiar, responsável pelo projeto, e à Sandra Faria, professora voluntária de língua gestual Portuguesa no SPEAK Lisboa.

P: Porque é que adicionaram ao SPEAK a língua gestual portuguesa?

R: O SPEAK existe com a finalidade de contribuir para a resolução da exclusão sociocultural.  A barreira linguística é uma das causas principais deste problema. Não saber língua gestual, em alguns casos, exclui, isola e é uma barreira à aproximação de pessoas. A maioria das pessoas não sabe língua gestual portuguesa e o SPEAK tem, na sua comunidade, pessoas em condições de partilhar esse conhecimento.

P: Já experimentaram a Língua Gestual no SPEAK Leiria, como funcionou?

R: Já tivemos duas turmas de Língua Gestual Portuguesa em Leiria e foi sempre a turma com mais alunos chegando sempre ao limite de 15.

 

Perguntas à Sandra

P: Vais ser a professora voluntária de Língua Gestual no SPEAK Lisboa, como usas o teu tempo nesta vida?

R:  Nesta fase, estou muito focada em ganhar experiência em várias áreas. De momento, trabalho na RTP, faço a tradução do Telejornal e do programa da tarde ‘Há tarde’, ja fiz outros programas lá. E trabalho também num part-time na área da tradução. Também faço outros trabalhos pontuais, como em Teatro, Conferências, ou acompanhamento de pessoas surdas, etc.

P: Na tua perspetiva, a que se deve o aumento do interesse para a LGP?

R: Não sei se existe ou não mais interesse por parte das pessoas em aprender. O que é facto, é que a LGP está mais presente, há mais presença de intérpretes na televisão, na política, em espaços culturais e de turismo. E as pessoas surdas têm vindo a mostrar mais que também fazem parte desta sociedade, estão mais ‘à vista’. E portanto, uma coisa leva a outra, é mais visível, por isso cria curiosidade. As pessoas acham que é uma língua bonita, é visual, é diferente , e têm interesse em aprender.

Portuguese Sign Language @ SPEAK Lisboa

SPEAK – Culture and language exchange – is working now for the first time in Lisbon. One of the offers in SPEAK Lisboa is Portuguese Sign Language (LGP) that is now available for a symbolic price for anyone interested.

I decided to ask a few questions to Hugo, responsible for the project.

Questions to Hugo

Q: Why is SPEAK coming up with LGP classes this year? 

A: SPEAK exists to try to solve the problem of sociocultural exclusion. The linguistic barrier is one of the main causes of this problem. Not knowing sign language, in some cases, excludes, isolates and creates a barrier between people. Most people don’t know portuguese sign language and SPEAK has, in its community, people available to share that knowledge.

Q: You have already tested Sign Language in SPEAK Leiria, how did it work?

A: We had already two semesters of Portuguese Sign Language in Leiria and the classes always reached the limit of 15 participants.

Questions to Sandra

Q: You are going to be the volunteer teacher of LGP at SPEAK Lisboa, how do you use your time for this life?

A: In this phase I’m very focused on gaining experience in several fields. At the moment I’m working in RTP, I do the translation of the TV newscast and the afternoon show “Há tarde”, and I have done other shows there. I have a part time job as well in the field of translation. I also do other punctual jobs, such as Theater, Conferences, attendance of deaf people, etc.

Q: In your perspective, what is the reason for the increased interest in LGP?

A: I’m not sure if there is more interest in learning LGP. Fact is that LGP has now more presence, there are more sign language interpreters in television, in politics, in culture and tourism spots. And deaf people have been showing that they are part of the society too, are in sight with more visibility. And one thing takes to the other, it is more visible so it generates more curiosity. People think it’s a beautiful language, it’s visual, it’s different, and so have interest in learning.
