Als ich vor zwei Jahren über das Erasmus Programm nach Portugal gekommen bin, habe ich mich direkt nach einer guten Möglichkeit umgesehen die Landessprache zu lernen. An der Uni wurden Portugiesisch-Kurse angeboten, sowie im Goethe Institut und vielen anderen Institutionen. Aber wie das als Student nun mal so ist, will man nicht viel Geld ausgeben und selbst an der Uni konnte man die Kurse nur gegen eine Gebühr belegen. Als ich einer portugiesischen Kommilitonin von meinem “Leid” erzählt habe, hat sie mir von SPEAK erzählt.
Sie hat mir gesagt dass sie bei der Organisation schon mehrere Sprachkurse belegt hat und begeistert ist von der Art und Weise wie dort gelehrt und gelernt wird. Sie hat mir erzählt dass es etwas informeller ist als der normale Sprachkurs und dass er so günstig ist, weil es nicht unbedingt ausgebildetes Lehrpersonal sein muss welches dort die Kurse gibt. Ich habe mich also spontan für einen Portugiesisch-Kurs angemeldet, aber war noch relativ skeptisch dem Konzept gegenüber. Kann es wirklich so günstig und effektiv sein Sprachen zu lernen?
Nach meiner ersten Stunde war ich beeindruckt von der lockeren Atmosphäre die im Klassenzimmer herrschte. Bei Speak wird vor allem Wert darauf gelegt dass man spricht (wie der Name schon sagt ?). Der Hauptfokus liegt also nicht auf der Grammatik, sondern darauf dass du Gefallen an der Sprache findest und lernst dich zu verständigen.
Als ich gehört habe dass Sie nach Englischlehrern suchen, habe ich mich direkt entschieden aktiv am Projekt SPEAK teilzunehmen. Ich habe Englisch im Bachelor studiert und wollte gerne mein Wissen mit anderen teilen. In meinem Kurs waren Schüler aus allen Altersgruppen und Berufsfeldern, sodass es nie an einem Gesprächsthema mangelte.
Das Lehren hat mir so Spaß gemacht dass ich ein zweites Semester unterrichtet habe und anschließend auch einen Deutschkurs gegeben hab.
Für alle die Spaß am Sprachenlernen haben kann ich die SPEAK Erfahrung nur empfehlen!

When I came to Portugal two years ago on the Erasmus program, my first concern was how to learn Portuguese. University, Goethe Institute and many other institutions offer Portuguese classes. But as I was a student, and you know students… we don’t want to spend too much money. Even at the university, you had to pay a fee to take a course. When I told a Portuguese fellow student about my “problem”’, she told me about SPEAK.
She told me that she had already taken several language courses with SPEAK and she was very enthusiastic about the way in which the courses were taught. She told me that it is somewhat more informal and relaxed than the normal language course and that anyone could sign up to help others learn a language as buddies (people who teach) don’t need to be professionals and will be trained by the team. So I spontaneously registered for a Portuguese course, but was still relatively sceptical towards the concept. Can it really be so cheap and effective to learn languages?
After my first session, the relaxed atmosphere that existed in the room impressed me. At SPEAK, it is especially important that you speak (as the name suggests ?). The main focus is not on the grammar, but on the fact that you learn how to communicate in the language.
When I heard that they are looking for English buddies, I decided to take an active part in the SPEAK and signed up to be a buddy. I studied English as a bachelor and wanted to share my knowledge with others. In my course, participants were from all age groups and professional fields, so there was never a lack of conversational topics. Teaching was so fun to me that I have taught a second semester and then also gave a German course.
For all the people who want to learn a language in a fun way, I can only recommend the SPEAK experience!
